Testing times lie ahead for those aspiring to land a teachers’ job in Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) schools. Now, aspiring teachers have to clear the Central Teacher Eligibility Test (CTET), which will be conducted by CBSE, to recruit quality staff for ensuring proper implementation of the Right to Education (RTE) Act.
The test is scheduled to be held on June 26, in various exam centres, across the country. The ministry of human resource development has entrusted the responsibility of conducting the CTET 2011 to the CBSE.
“The implementation of RTE Act requires recruitment of a large number of teachers across the country in a time bound manner. In spite, of the enormity of the task, it is desirable to ensure that quality requirement for recruitment of teachers is not diluted at any cost. It’s therefore necessary to ensure that persons recruited as teachers possess the essential aptitude and ability to meet the challenges of teaching at the primary and upper primary level,” said a senior official of CBSE, explaining behind the rationale to conduct the test.
With the test, CBSE hopes to bring national standards and benchmark for teachers’ quality in the recruitment process.
“Moreover, it would induce teacher education institutions and their students to further improve their performance standards. It will also send positive signal to all stakeholders that the government lays special emphasis on teacher quality,” the official explained.
